PE investments in South drops 64%
Private Equity (PE) investments into South India have dropped 64 per cent between April and September, 2009, to $626 million from $1752 million, during the same period last year. The number of deals fell 48 per cent. Among the four states in South, Andhra Pradesh had attracted the highest investment, in terms of value.

World Bank offers additional funds for SSA

With government’s flagship Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme showing encouraging results in expansion of elementary education, the World Bank has come forward with an offer to provide additional funding of $ 500 million (Rs 2,325 cr approx) for the programme. - WB"s additional $500 mn funds for SSA - A clean, free-flowing Ganga by 2020: Government - World Bank approves NCRMP - Govt to spend Rs 15,000 cr for "a clean, free-flowing Ganga" - Rs 20,120-cr capex projected for upgrade of power units - Deepak Lal: Remembrance of things past">Deepak Lal: Remembrance of things past The World Bank has proposed the government to provide the money as soft loans to be paid over a period of 35 to 40 years with lesser interest. The World Bank had provided soft loan of $ 600 million (Rs 2,790 cr approx) for the scheme which aims at universalisation of elementary education. At present 99 per cent of the habitations in the country have got a primary school. Under the SSA, 270,000 schools have already been operationalised.
