Interacting with editors at a conference here yesterday, he said Gurez valley has been fully covered by solar lights and noted that the State has good potential for generating wind power. He said Jammu and Kashmir has huge potential for setting up small and micro hydro power projects after Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Minister said 246 small hydro power project sites of 25 MWs capacity each aggregating to 1411 MW have been identified. Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation has been entrusted with the task of formulating proposals of such power projects in the State and projects with a capacity of 111.83 MWs have so far been installed in the state. Abdullah said under the Prime Minister Rehabilitation Programme, 1000 micro hydro projects have been taken up of which Ladakh has 10, Kashmir region 550 and Jammu region 350 projects. He also said the new solar mission policy will be released on November 14.
